At a glance

Toshiba’s first Blu-ray player – the BDX-2000KY – delivers beautiful full HD1080P images that all videophiles crave! It can output video at “Full HD” 1080p resolution, for crisp images with extraordinary depth and detail. You won’t need to give up your DVD collection when you start building your Blu-ray library as the BDX-2000 also upconverts DVD video to resolutions as high as 1080p, so all your old favorites look really good.

Many Blu-ray movies also include a master-quality Dolby® TrueHD or DTS-HD™ Master Audio soundtrack, and this player lets you enjoy those, too. Simply connect it to your receiver via HDMI and settle in for incredibly dynamic and nuanced surround sound that pulls you into the on-screen action like never before.

If you like watching bonus features, you’ll love BonusView and BD-Live. BonusView gives you access to picture-in-picture extras like directors’ commentaries. With BD-Live, you can use your high-speed Internet connection to download new short features and trailers, or play online games. You’ll also need an SD™ Card to access BD-Live: You simply insert the card into a slot behind the player’s fold-down front panel.

Respected Magazine Reviewer Stephen Dawson had the following to say in Sound & Image Magazine.

“Toshiba’s original claim to HD fame was its development of and support for the HD DVD format, which was a rival to Blu-ray…..Yet less than 18 months later, after the format was abandoned by a series of previous supporters, Toshiba announced the end of HD DVD. Now it has taken the final step of capitulation and released its first Blu-ray player in Australia, the BDX-2000KY…….

If you know and love Toshiba’s HD DVD players, get out of your mind any thoughts about this being derived from one of those, reworked for Blu-ray. There are seemingly no points of commonality, whether in menu design, features (beyond those shared with other Blu-ray players) or performance”.
